U-14 Boys vs. Bobcats – Division 1 22/10/18
Final Score: 37 : 44
The game started with Tomas Kennedy, Cian Mason, Sam Fitzgerald, Brian Enright and William O’Donoghue on the floor. All contributed to a very good performance which saw Imperials leading 10 – 7 at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter began with Roan Grattan, Oisin McGibney, Cian Moran, Tadgh Moran and Gearoid O’Connor taking the floor. This proved to be a difficult quarter, with most of our efforts concentrated on defence. Bobcats outscored us 14 -1 in this quarter. All the boys worked really hard to secure defensive rebounds. The first half finished on a score line of 11 – 22.
Quarter 3 saw a great turnaround with our boys getting some excellent baskets and defensive stops. Great outside shooting from Brian Enright, Cian Mason, Tomas Kennedy, Sean Og Brosnan and Cian Moran resulted in Imperials out scoring Bobcats 13 – 8.
The final quarter was nip and tuck. Tomas Kennedy scored all of our points, helping to keep the game close, however there was some great team work with Lucas Maier, the two Cian’s, Sam Fitzgerald, William O’Donoghue all playing their part.
Whilst our first game ended in defeat, coaches Jerome and Philip were very happy with the performance of all players on the night. Thanks to Cathy for all the organising and also thanks to the parents for their support on the night.
Jr NBA
On Sunday 21st October we had our first Jr NBA Cluster Event. 14 children from St. Brendan’s N.S. Blennerville were presented with their Memphis Grizzlies gear and 14 children from Scoil Eoin Balloonagh were presented with their LA Lakers gear. Our Youth and Coaching Development Officer, Darragh O’Hanlon led the drills and skills session for the first hour with focus on passing and dribbling. A quick water break before the much anticipated game and some of the children even managed to sneak upstairs and get a few sweet treats. The hall quickly filled with supporters including children from both schools, parents, teachers and even the ‘Star’ Kieran Donaghy came along to see the Blennerville Grizzlies take on the Scoil Eoin Lakers. The game was an excellent display of skill, teamwork and sportsmanship. Well done to both schools who have embraced the Jr NBA programme, not only showing off their basketball skills but also their art skills in the banners around the hall. A big thank you to the volunteers from Tralee Imperials BC who manned the teas/coffees and refreshments, to Joan for all the baking, the Mounthawk TY’s who helped set up the hall and act as table officials, Ger for live streaming the whole event, and the coaches who give up their time every week, Jimmy, Darragh, Sarah and Olivia. We are looking forward to the next Cluster Event which will take place in November after the school midterm break. The national sponsors of the Jr NBA is DeCare Dental (www.decaredental.ie)
