Tralee Magic’s U12 and U14 boys and girls travelled to Galway on Saturday 24th January for the inaugural Bruce Kelliher Memorial Tournament, held in the Kingfisher Arena.

Alongside St. Brendan’s, Maree and Moycullen, our teams played a full schedule of games in a tournament designed around fun, fairness and participation. From the first tip-off, the atmosphere matched that message: plenty of smiles, great energy on court, and real respect between teams. Coaches across all our teams made sure players were involved, supported and encouraged, and the sideline support was equally positive throughout the day.

Tralee Magic did well across all of our games and, just as importantly, showed real togetherness — the kind of team spirit that travels well. The cup coming back to Tralee was a brilliant moment for the group, and a well-earned reward for the effort, focus and attitude shown by our players across both age groups.

A sincere thank you to Maree and Moycullen for hosting so warmly and for the work that goes into making a tournament day run smoothly. Credit also to the organisers, referees, coaches and volunteers who kept everything moving from game to game and created such a welcoming environment for young players.

It was especially meaningful to have Bruce’s family — in attendance. Their presence gave the day an extra layer of purpose and helped make the tournament feel like a genuine tribute, celebrating not just basketball, but the friendships and community it creates.

We’re proud to have been part of the very first edition of this tournament, and we’re already looking forward to the next one — with the exciting news that the Bruce Kelliher Tournament is expected to come to Tralee next year. We can’t wait to return the hospitality and welcome Maree, Moycullen and St. Brendan’s to Tralee.
