After a hard-fought quarter-final win over Killester, the reward is another serious test — a clash with UCD Marian, who booked their place in the competition by overcoming fellow Kerry side Flexachem KCYMS. Cup weekends are never forgiving, and this one promises intensity, depth, and big plays.
The Warriors squad — drawn from right across Tralee town — has been guided through a hugely successful season so far, by a coaching team made up entirely of Tralee Magic coaches. So while its Warriors on the floor, its Magic behind the scenes. Our shared journey is something our club is incredibly proud of — Warriors, Magic, and Tralee basketball all represented in one game and across the whole weekend, built on a common work ethic, standards, and ambition.
Warriors Head Coach John Dowling, who leads the coaching group alongside Kevin O’Donoghue and Basketball Hall of Famer Jimmy Diggins — summed it up perfectly for Basketball Ireland:
“Everyone is excited to be back in Cork for cup semi-final weekend along with Tralee Magic in the U20 Women’s and St. Brendan’s in U18 men. UCD Marian will be as tough a test as any, so we will have to prepare well over the next few weeks. They are pretty similar to ourselves, they have guys that can all score the ball, good depth from the bench, that with Tanner (Graham) and (Joshua) Reynolds they can hurt you in a variety of ways.”
Games like this reflect the work being done across clubs and the basketball community in the town. It’s a proud moment for everyone involved in Tralee basketball, and the Magic family will be watching closely, wishing the Warriors every success this weekend.
Best of luck, Warriors 💙
