Tralee Magic’s U16 Girls Division 3 squad produced a big home performance in Mounthawk Gym on Sunday night, taking a 46–36 win over a lively Cahersiveen side.
The opening quarter was a real feeling-out period, with both teams matching each other score for score to sit level at 8–8 after eight minutes. Magic tightened the screws on defence in the second, turning steals into transition scores and forcing Cahersiveen into tough shots. A 14–3 burst in that period sent the girls in blue into the long break with a well-earned 22–11 lead.
Cahersiveen came out firing after half-time and put together their best spell of the game, edging a high-scoring third quarter 16–15. Even as the visitors found their rhythm, Magic showed great composure – moving the ball, crashing the boards and knocking down important baskets to keep daylight between the teams.
What stood out most was how connected the group looked. The girls talked on defence, lifted each other after misses and kept the energy high from the bench. The scoring was spread, different combinations worked well together, and they trusted the pass to find the open player rather than forcing shots.
In the final quarter the Tralee girls managed the game superbly. They coped well with foul pressure, stayed organised on defence and made sure the ball was in safe hands when it mattered. An 8–9 last period was enough to see them over the line, closing out a 46–36 victory that reflected their effort and concentration over the full four quarters.
Huge thanks to Cahersiveen for making the trip and giving us a competitive, sporting game, and to our referees, table officials and timekeeper for keeping everything running smoothly on the night. 💙
