Tralee Magic Basketball Club is immensely proud to congratulate Holly O’Brien, captain of last season’s U20 National Cup-winning team, on her next big step in basketball. Holly has joined Catalyst Fr. Mathews for the 2025/26 Women’s Superleague, the top tier of Irish women’s basketball.

Already a standout point guard and one of the club’s most composed leaders, Holly made her Superleague debut with Fr. Mathews earlier this month. In true Magic spirit, she will continue to represent her home club in the U20 National Cup competition — a gesture that speaks volumes about her loyalty and dedication to Tralee Magic.

“We’re so proud of Holly. She’s worked hard for everything she’s achieved and it’s brilliant to see her step up to the Superleague. She’s earned it and we’ll all be behind her.”
 — Roy Bowler, Tralee Magic Club Chairman
Holly’s journey with Tralee Magic began as a young player in the club’s academy, where her natural leadership and competitive drive quickly set her apart. Over the years, she has grown into a true floor general — leading by example, consistently among the team’s top scorers, and showing the kind of maturity and commitment that inspires those around her.

As captain of Tralee Magic’s U20 Women, she guided her teammates to a historic National Cup victory in 2025 — a moment that will be remembered as a highlight in the club’s story. Her composure and defensive intensity were crucial in that success, demonstrating the same qualities that earned her a Superleague call-up.

Catalyst Fr. Mathews, based in Cork, are one of the cornerstone clubs of the Women’s Superleague. Known for their professionalism, player development, and winning tradition, they have claimed titles such as the 2019 Champions Trophy and were National Cup finalists in 2024. Joining such a respected programme marks a fantastic opportunity for Holly to continue growing and testing herself at the highest level.

Magic supporters will soon have the chance to see Holly in Superleague action close to home when Fr. Mathews face Utility Trust St. Paul’s Killarney on Saturday, October 18th at 4 PM. We’d love to see a big Magic turnout in Killarney — to cheer, support, and celebrate one of our own as she continues to chase her basketball ambitions.

Holly’s success is a source of pride for everyone at Tralee Magic — from her coaches and teammates to the volunteers and family who’ve supported her along the way. She is proof of what can be achieved through hard work, community spirit, and a love for the game.
