What a day! On Saturday, March 22nd, our Social Ball – Mothers & Others crew wrapped up their season in the best way possible—with a charity blitz full of basketball, banter, and big-hearted community spirit.

The idea came about when the group decided to finish the season with a fun blitz, but they didn’t stop there. After seeing coverage of Fiadh Ronan’s brave battle with neuroblastoma, it was quickly decided that this event would be more than just games—it would be a fundraiser in support of Together for Fiadh.

The blitz took place in Mounthawk Gym and featured teams from St. Brendan’s, Cobras, Sliabh Luachra, and two Tralee Magic squads. The court was hopping all day long with matches that were full of energy, excitement, and more than a few dramatic (but totally unofficial) buzzer-beaters.

There were no trophies or scoreboards—just loads of laughs, a few questionable layups, and plenty of sideline coaching from teammates-turned-cheerleaders. From quick breaks to long-range shots, the games had everything but the pressure. The women played with heart and humour, showing off their skills while embracing the fun, social side of the sport. Friendships were strengthened, rivalries were light-hearted, and the atmosphere was electric.

Off the court, things were just as lively. An incredible crew of volunteers kept the day running smoothly—serving up tasty treats, managing a brilliant raffle with amazing prizes, and keeping spirits high. Special thanks to our referee dream team John, Dell, and Sharon, who generously donated their time and whistles to the cause. And to our army of helpers—bakers, ticket sellers, table officials, and photographers—we couldn’t have done it without you!

We’re thrilled to share that €1,500 was raised for Together for Fiadh, and every cent will go towards supporting Fiadh Ronan and her family. A huge shoutout to St. Brendan’s Basketball Club and Garvey’s Tralee Warriors for their generous contributions—your support meant so much and helped make the day a big success.

Social Ball is all about connection, community, and a shared love of the game—and this day captured all of that and more. A perfect mix of basketball and feel-good fun, all for an amazing cause.
