U20 Women’s National Cup Quarterfinal – Tralee Magic vs. Kilkenny Stars
Tralee Magic’s U20 Women’s team returns to action this Bank Holiday Monday, February 3rd, at 2:30 PM in Mounthawk Secondary School, as they face the Kilkenny Stars in the quarterfinal of the National Cup. With the stakes high in this knockout competition, the girls need the full support of the Magic community to help them push for a place in the semifinals.
The Magic players are working incredibly hard to represent the club and the town on the national stage. Some have already represented Ireland, and several are also competing in the U18 Cup (pending appeal) and with the Tralee Warriors BIDL team as they aim to promote the women’s game in Tralee and beyond. Their commitment to excellence and development is a credit to the club and an inspiration for all of our younger players.
In their opening game of the competition, Tralee Magic delivered a solid performance to defeat Malahide BC 55-38. The girls set the tone early, leading from the first quarter, with Holly O’Brien standing out as the top scorer with 23 points and a 69% free-throw accuracy. Rachel Creedon added 11 points, while Priya O’Donovan and Mary Kate Smith contributed key baskets to maintain the lead throughout. Defensively, the team kept Malahide’s offense in check, demonstrating their ability to grind out wins with discipline and focus.
However, Kilkenny Stars present a new challenge, having already played two games in the competition, averaging 70 points per game. Their strong offensive output will test Tralee’s defense, which has been a key strength.
This quarterfinal promises to be a tough contest, and the team will need the full backing of the Magic community to give them the edge. We encourage all members—especially our girls’ teams and their families—to come along and cheer for these incredible players.
