Our U14 Boys took to the court for their second game in Division 1, and they’re clearly loving the challenge! Facing local rivals St. Brendan’s in an epic County League battle, the stage was set for a cracking game—and did the lads deliver! With nine players across both teams also teammates on the Kerins O'Rahilly’s U14 football squad, this was more than just a basketball game—it was a local derby with pride on the line!
St. Brendan’s came out strong, but our boys didn’t let them get too far ahead. By the end of the first quarter, we had closed the gap to trail by just three points, 8-11. Then came the second quarter, where the lads really found their rhythm. With sharp defense and 16 points on the board, we flipped the script to take a narrow 24-22 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was a nail-biter, with both teams battling hard and trading leads like two boxers in the ring. Entering the final quarter down by a single point at 30-31, it was anyone’s game. But in that last period, our boys turned up the heat! They hit their stride, pushing the ball in transition and dominating with 24 points, while holding St. Brendan’s to just 15. The final whistle blew, and we secured a thrilling 54-46 win.
It’s clear to see that the lads are embracing the step up to Division 1 and enjoying every moment of the challenge. Their hard work in training is paying off, and their progress is exciting to watch. Well done, boys—keep the momentum going!
